County Meath VEC is a local statutory education and training authority established under the 1930 Vocational Educational Act in Ireland. The main services provided by Meath VEC fall broadly within three categories - schools and colleges, education and training programmes and other services. CMVEC is a member of the Irish Vocational Education Association - the representative body for the 33 Vocational Educational Committees nationally. CMVEC work closely with IVEA to protect, promote and enhance the interests of vocational education and training within the national education sector.

Established in 1985, the Institute began its activity in 1986 with the mission of promoting the cultural, scientific and social development of a region seriously affected by problems of human and physical desertification and a very low level of education. At present, the Institute has an academic structure of four schools – School of Agriculture, School of Education, School of Technology and Management and School of Health - each one well resourced to support active and competence-based learning with a high degree of autonomy, offering a wide range of graduate and also some post-graduate study programmes in the framework of their different educational units, to a population of 3500 students.
